  1. My initial thought was that the point the author is making applies even more directly to K-12 education. A good chunk of the pressure that is being put on teachers is around performance evaluation with the primary focus on the teacher, not the student.

    Hey …. My kid showed up to class totally unprepared, hadn’t done any of the homework, and tends to be a major distraction to the other kids in class. For some reason my kid doesn’t seem to be over-acheiving in your class. What’s wrong with you?

    As a society, we’ve created an environment where the student has almost no ownership / responsibility for the success of their education.
